Notes:
(1) This national association consisted of independent branch
associations in the German states and kingdoms and already in 1848 was represented
in Hessen, Baden, Schlesien, Württemberg, Bayern, the Pfalz, in Bremen, in Hamburg
and in Frankfurt am Main. The Hessen and Württemberg branch associations arranged
a combined congress of all German emigration associations, held on 16th October
1848 in Frankfurt am Main.
(2) In the same year this association amalgamated with the Nationalverein für deutsche Auswanderung und Ansiedlung, Darmstadt.
(3) This association was a federation of emigration associations in Dresden, Leipzig, Budissin, Zwickau, Großenhain, Freiberg, Neustadt bei Stolpen, Chemnitz, Oederau, Annaberg, along with the branch associations of Auerbach und Falkenstein, and of Zittau und Kamenz.
(4) From 1852 this was known as Zentral-Verein für deutsche Auswanderungs- und Kolonisations-Angelegenheiten. The association produced heaps of published lectures on varied aspects of emigration and colonial possibilities in different parts of the world.
(5) Many Germans emigrated to Chile and settled the beautiful wooded lakes district around Valdivia, south of the capital Santiago.
